I love the butterfly

November 29, 2011

man i love it.

prob even more than the crawl in no time…

so think i made decent progress today:

its not really abt the power. u definitely need power to pull water past u, and under to lift the body up. but i seem to do better relaxing the arms while entering the water.

so on entry of water, dunk the chest down – u have to feel like u are diving into the water, helped by the kick to spear u downwards.

relax the arms, the arms should be Y shaped, twist ur palns outwards for a better grip, and basically just pull back+push down to lift the body up. and then kick AFTER the pull.

i even took a 2 stroke (i.e. 4 kicks) with one breathe attempt but it works out too tiring (which is weird since it is supposed to be less tiring).

but i am progressing well. enjoying myself. more variety on stroke patterns.

good fun!

We Might As Well Win: On the Road to Success with the Mastermind Behind a Record-Setting Eight Tour de France Victories

November 29, 2011

it’s actually a much better book that what i thought it might be.

pretty good look inside the Tour from the perspective of the director – the dude in the car following the cyclists.

nothing spectacular though.

Using SAFRA membership to use HomeNS Swimming pool

November 27, 2011

man – i can’t believe i didn;t know this.

but the damn pool is right by my doorstep – no more driving and getting stuck in traffic!!

8 lane 50m pool just across the road – man this is a gr8 place to live…

anyway – the improvement in time is still going on (i think). i added a couple of small dolphin kicks off the turns, just to practice it a lil – 35:45 for 30 laps. i definitely can go faster – strokes feel good but definitely i can do better with more effort.

4laps of butterfly trying- it’s ok. didn;t want to do more for the back woes+marathon coming up. but i realised that i was actually doing a 2 kick stroke already contrary to my imagination. and later of found that the Y shape hand entry gives definitely better leverage. the discovery continues….

Rockport sale

November 27, 2011

i am a fan of Rockport shoes after the pair of brown ones i bought last year.

damn i should have went for the sale at Safra Tampines yday – most of the ones of size 9.5-10 were sold out yday.

nonetheless, still managed to get a pair of black k54056 size 10.. not sure if size 9.5 exists but i am sure size 9 is too small.

anyway, at 80 SGD (usual price 180), there’s not a lot of reason for hesitating….

Awesome Screenshot

November 26, 2011

This chrome extension is gr8!!!

no more fumbling ard with Paint and the cropping etc!

simply awesome….

CNET says this abt it:

Awesome Screenshot: Capture and Annotate is a free extension for Google Chrome that adds a screen capture utility with a small built-in graphics app that lets you edit, annotate, and share captured images quickly and easily via a pop-up toolbar. Instead of opening two or three tools just to save a screen image, doctor it up, and e-mail it to your grateful friends, Awesome Screenshot can do the job in a few clicks.

Chrome extensions usually install virtually instantaneously, and Awesome Screenshot is no exception. Clicking the extension’s icon called up a small dialog letting us save the entire page, the visible portion, or a selected area, though we quickly learned that we couldn’t save selected areas of secure Web pages. Right-clicking the icon accesses the extension’s properties, including a set of clear instructions on its Chrome page and the ability to set keyboard shortcuts for the tool’s three capture functions. The real fun starts when you capture an image, which opens a toolbar at the top of the main window just below Chrome’s toolbar. If you’ve used Photoshop or a digital snapshot editor, you’ll recognize the crop, blur, text, and color picker tools as well as tools for adding rectangles, ellipses, lines, free lines, and arrows directly to the captured image. There’s even an Undo button, and a Done button to save annotated images. We had a blast capturing and editing images and entire Web pages on the fly, but that’s just the beginning; clicking Done displayed our final image with the option to save it locally or online, temporarily or permanently, at the publisher’s site. The tool also lets you save captured images locally and upload them later to a sharing site. We didn’t try the online storage and sharing option but like the idea, or at least the option.

With Awesome Screenshot: Capture and Annotate, your friends will never have to miss another hilariously doctored screen image because you didn’t have the time or patience to open three different tools to save, edit, annotate and then save it again. Don’t worry; Awesome Screenshot has plenty of productive uses, too, such as illustrating reports. We recommend it for both work and play.

the bad thing is that it shows. i am struggling.

lost motivation for the run also – it was a struggle to keep the morale up…

No Limits: The Will to Succeed

Quite a good read actually

book breaksdown into 8 chapters, one for each stroke/event he won at the Games.

rewatched the 100m fly again on youtube – it was awesome!

No Limits: The Will to Succeed

first run from the sprain

November 23, 2011

was a bit apprehensive but it was good to get it underwraps.

2weeks+ of non-running and it was nice to get 10km under the belt without any back problems and was reassuring that i dun feel much worse off aerobically.

20km this run this weekend and it should be back to normal again!!

butterfly-ing!

November 21, 2011

it’s funny cos the fly isn’t that hard to learn. the crawl with the 2beat kick took me a few weeks to learn but the fly seem to come quite easily.
of cos, swimming it well is a lot tougher but within one session i could already do a couple of laps (although i was exhausted) – but at least i was “fly’-ing!!

the drills are fun and an easy to catch up
1) first the dolphin kick is really not abt kicking hard – it’s really about using the core and then just undulate the body
2) the one arm drill is also fun. my assymetry in the freestyle stroke shows – my left arm is a lot more uncoordinated than the right. but it’s funny i got away with it by beathing to the side on the right and breathing to the front on the left and diving in.

more fun ahead!!!

butterfly drills

November 20, 2011

http://www.youtube.com/user/goswim098#p/search/0/fJeENNNK5Iw

1) single arm drills – left arm st8, right hand plunging, kicking

2) butterfree – keep swimming freestyle but with dolphin.

i’ll try that.
